Sightseeing and shopping

When in Haawe, you are right in the centre of Rovaniemi, only a few steps from restaurants and shopping. Haawe is also a short walking distance from most of the attractions that are open all year round: the science centre Arktikum that showcases the history of Rovaniemi and Lapland, and the research of the Arctic region, the Korundi House of Culture that is housed in a beautifully restored building from the 1930’s, just like Haawe, and the Science Centre Pilke that exhibits the sustainable use of forests. Visit Rovaniemi, the Rovaniemi tourist information, serves visitors 200 metres from Haawe. You can find out more about activities and attractions in Rovaniemi from the Visit Rovaniemi website.

Experiences and exercise in the nature

Even though Haawe is in the very centre of Rovaniemi, it is only a short distance away from nature. The riverside, just a stone’s throw away, is a popular place for jogging in the summer, and the citizens of Rovaniemi love skiing on its ice in the winter. On the other side of the river, on the hillside of Ounasvaara, you can find landscapes that inspired us when designing our rooms. Along the Ounasvaara Nature Path that is open in the summer, you can find a rakka (“tor”) and a limpid kaltio fountain, among other things. And, naturally, a lean-to, under which you can take a break warming up and roasting some sausages. You can also access the lean-to in the winter by following a winter walking route. Ounasvaara is also a popular area for jogging and, in the winter, for skiing and snowshoeing.

Travelling with children

Rovaniemi is a genuine wonderland for children – it is Santa’s hometown, where you can meet him in person every day of the year! You can take bus number 8 to the Arctic Circle from a bus stop that is about 100 metres away from Haawe. There are two playgrounds nearby, providing plenty of fun activities, exercise, and an opportunity to get to know local families with children.
