Usva – the Fog
Moments of peace and quiet
Moments of peace and quiet
In this room, you can settle down under tree tops, surrounded by foggy shades of grey and green. The room’s sloped roof and serene colour scheme make it feel like a safe nest, where you can enjoy moments of peace and quiet. The spacious bathroom/toilet features a rain shower. The space has been put into use in a clever way: there is enough space for an extra bed for two, but the room would still feel spacious.
In layman’s terms, “usva” or fog is water vapor created by air cooling down faster than the ground. Even though the explanation is simple, the phenomenon itself is full of poetry. Rovaniemi has a unique type of fog for each season!
A white veil shrouds the meadows on dewy summer nights. On autumn mornings, clouds surround the forest and float down to touch the surface of the river. On spring mornings, the sun glares through the mist floating above the river. However, the most unforgettable experience for travellers is probably when the breathtaking frost fog appears and reminds you that Rovaniemi really is an Arctic city.
