Kajo – the first Gleam of Dawn
An attic room-like atmosphere
An attic room-like atmosphere
The Kajo room is named after its small, round window, through which the Arctic light can reach its glow into the room. The special window creates an attic room-like atmosphere, highlighted by a sloped roof and the original brick wall from the 1930s. The Kajo room has a well-equipped kitchen and also a desk, much appreciated by our guests traveling for work. A rain shower and a bathtub bring a touch of luxury into the bathroom.
Even in the midwinter polar night, Lapland is not completely dark. Each day, a soft glow from the south reaches the skyline: the sun is just reminding us of its existence. Even though there is little light in the polar night, the white snow multiplies the amount of light. In a cloudless moonlit night, it can get brighter than on a grey rainy day in the autumn.
Combined with the snow, the wintery glow of light creates wondrous colour schemes. The magical blue hour can be witnessed at morning and evening twilight, and the setting sun tinges the frosty sky and the snowdrifts pink. In fact, it is a good time to spend the daylight hours outdoors in the winter – and to head out again into the wintry landscape in the dark, when, with any luck, the sky is glowing with Northern Lights.
