Kelo – the Dead Tree
Warmth and luxury
Warmth and luxury
Many would enjoy a longer stay in the warm, cosy and luxuriously furnished Kelo suite. You can enjoy the hot steams of sauna or a relaxing bath in its separate spa room. The sleeping area has been separated from the kitchen/living area with a wall, and the suite has a shower/toilet with handrails, separated from the spa room. There is plenty of space to move around, and there are no thresholds in the room.
Even though pines never grow tall in Lapland, they can live for hundreds of years. And when they die, they can remain standing still for years. As they drop their bark, they become solemn, silver-grey snag trees. Besides being pretty, these snags are home to many organisms – and thanks to being lightweight and durable, they are a sought-after material among cottage builders.
If you want to see snags and old pines in the wilderness, it is a good idea to head towards the Järvisen aihkikko area, approx. 45 km from the city centre. Järvinen was a forester, artist and outdoor literature author who spent a lot of time in his deadwood cabin in the aihkikko area.
