Have you ever wanted your own waterfall, even for a moment? The Köngäs room is dominated by two elements: grey, rocklike natural stone, and water. What makes this room special is its large, spa-like shower room, where you can conjure up a waterfall on the back wall with the touch of a button. The gentle rain shower and high-quality bath amenities bring the finishing touches to the indulgent experience.
The Finnish word “köngäs” originates from the Sami language, meaning a rapids or a fall that cannot be run on a boat. One of the most imposing waterfalls in Lapland, Auttiköngäs, is located in the village of Autti, approx. 85 km from Rovaniemi. Auttiköngäs is at its most powerful in the spring, as the melting snow adds to the flow of the fall. Even so, it is an impressive sight throughout the year.
In the Auttiköngäs area, you can learn more about historical lines of work. River Auttijoki used to play an important role in the driving of lumber. A flume still remains next to the fall – it was used for moving logs to River Kemijoki flowing towards the sawmills in the town. You can find the Vikaköngäs and Vaattunkiköngäs falls closer to Rovaniemi, in the Arctic Circle Hiking Area. These falls are popular among rafters and fishermen.
